Hello parents and students! My name is Diana Soria-Silva. I graduated from Texas State University and I plan on pursuing my master's in school counseling in the near future. I started my teaching career as a math teacher in Aldine ISD and I am super excited to begin my first year teaching in Tomball ISD. As a product of Tomball ISD, I have first hand experience of the excellent education it has to offer. I want to continue Tomball's legacy of excellence by providing a variety of valuable, fun, educational experiences for my students.
On my down time, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors with my husband, Eddie. I also enjoy being the cool aunt to my 2 nephews and 3 nieces.
It is my mission to instill a healthy disregard for the impossible in all of my students. I am looking forward to collaborating with you and your child this 2019-2020 school year.

Hello parents & guardians! Next week will be the last week of school. I would like to do something special for my students so they can say goodbye to their friends. Your child is invited to decorate a google slide that I have shared in Google Classroom with pictures, quotes, &/or video to express themselves. The presentation will be shared on Tuesday, May 26th at 1pm via Google Meet.
As a reminder, grades are due this Friday. I have notified students in Google Classroom & email of their missing assignments. Please have your child check their email as well as their grades online to ensure they have submitted all assignments. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Week 6 of Remote Learning Update

Hello parents & guardians,

In an effort to make it easier for you to find the assignment your child is missing for my class, the link below contains a list of the graded math assignments. TIS Remote Learning at a Glance: 6th Grade Math

As mentioned in my previous post, an "X" in the gradebook means the assignment has not been completed or the grade earned was less than a 70. If your child earns less than a 70, I will email your child & encourage them to retake & to see me for assistance via email or Google Meet. Regardless of the grade your child earns, 100 goes in the gradebook so please encourage your child to refer to the resources made available to them & to ask me for help.

On another note, I am hosting a game day tomorrow, the 28th, during the first half of my office hour. I hope to get my students to participate for several reasons:

1) To have fun

2) An opportunity for them to see their friends

3) Remind students to encourage their parents to submit a Google Meet consent form if they do not have one on file

Participation in game day is 100% optional. Winner or winners will win a pizza of their choice & will be delivered on Friday. I will contact the winner's parents prior to placing the order.

I will continue to be available to all of my students by email, Google Classroom, & Google Meet. I thank you for your patience if I am not able to respond to your email right away. Meeting with my students to answer their questions is my priority. Staff meetings also take me away but I will continue to respond to your email within 1-2 business days. Take care!

Good morning!

I posted the assignments for week 5 in Google Classroom yesterday. I will host office hours again today from 1pm-2pm to answer your child’s questions. It is optional but I encourage participation considering we are moving on to new concepts. If your child is unable to participate in the office hour, please email me a time that works.

Thank you for your patience regarding grade updates. The district recently modified the grading guidelines which has allowed me move forward with updating my grade book. An “X” signifies that I do not have a grade for the assignment. Below is link to a list of the assignments dates, titles, as well as  links to be redirected to the missing assignment. I hope this makes it easier for your child to complete missing assignments.

Remote Learning Grades

Please check in with your child to ensure assignments are completed by Friday of every week. If access to wifi is an issue Tomball ISD is providing free "park & learn" wifi at these following campuses:

  • Oakcrest Intermediate
  • Tomball Junior High
  • Creekview Elementary
  • Rosehill Elementary

I will continue to be available by email & Google Classroom so please let me know if you have any questions or need assistance.

Good morning parents & guardians,

5th/6th period- 11:00am-11:30am

This week, we are moving on to the Data & Statistics unit. The remote learning document for 04/13-04/17 has been posted in Google Classroom. Please watch the how-to video at the top of the remote learning document for directions on how to complete the assignments for the week. Please note assignments listed under “May Do” are practice activities. Assignments under the “Must Do” are required.

I will continue to host office hours Tuesday from 1pm-2pm or as requested.

Google Meet: Online Video Conferencing | I Need Your Parent Consent

Hello parents and guardians,

I pray you and your family are doing well.  Beginning next week, I will have office hours to meet with students using a free and secure video conferencing platform called Google Meet. During this time, students can join a conference via phone or web cam to ask questions regarding assignments & math concepts. My office hours for students will be on Tuesdays from 1pm-2pm or as requested. In order for your child to participate in a video or phone conference with me or any teacher at Tomball ISD, he/she must have parent permission to do so. Please let the district know whether you give permission for your child to use Google Meet by clicking on the following link: Google Meet: Online Video Conferencing | Parent Consent

Remote learning assignments for the week will be posted on Monday mornings in Google Classroom. I will continue to be available by email & Google Classroom to address questions.  To make it as easy and flexible for parents and students, the assignments can be completed in one day or worked on it on the specific day of the week.

On another note, the school counselor is available to students. If you would like for your child to meet with the school counselor, Mrs. Sumrall, please fill out the request form Request to Speak with Mrs. Sumrall. She will follow up with you as soon as she is available.

I know you are balancing a lot more that usual so I will do my best to provide concise information at one time. As always, I am available for questions or concerns & can be reached at Dianasoria@tomballisd.net

Remote Learning

Hello Parents,

I pray that you and your family are doing well during this difficult time. I posted this week’s assignments and announcements in Google Classroom. These assignments for the week are review concepts for your child to practice getting comfortable with remote learning. All assignments will take about 45 minutes a day to complete instead of the usual 90 minutes of class time and will be manageable from home.

Please encourage your child to continue working on his/her study plan in Education Galaxy during his/her free time. Education Galaxy is not currently listed as a resource on the district’s page of resources for 6th grade math but students will know how to log in. If they need he/she needs the login info, I am happy to provide that upon request.

I understand that you are working very hard doing things like earning money for the family, taking care of loved ones, running errands, etc. Any announcements or updates regarding assignments will be posted in Google Classroom to streamline information without overwhelming you with updates. I will be checking my email and Google Classroom throughout the day to assist you and your child. Until further notice, my office hours for a Zoom conference are 10am-11am. If this time does not work for you, please email me at dianasoria@tomballisd.net to schedule a time that fits your schedule.

Please let me know any concerns. I am here to help your child succeed.

Unit 2 Review

Hello parents! Students have been reviewing in class for our Unit 2 test on Monday, 11/04/19. Please have them review their study guide over the weekend to better prepare. The correct answers to the study guide are available on Quizizz: Unit 2 Review
Here is a link to an online activity where your child can get some extra practice:
Students are also encouraged to log into Education Galaxy and work on their study plan under the tab titled, "My Galaxies".

Education Galaxy

Hello Parents & Guardians,
Education Galaxy is an online program that students can use at home and at school to practice important math standards and concepts. Students can work self-paced on Education Galaxy and can monitor their own progress. You will be able to pull reports and see exactly where your child is performing well and where your child may need extra help. You can set up and control notifications on student performance and assignments.
1. Simply download the free app from your smartphone and register as a parent.
2. Have your child log in to his or her Education Galaxy account and click on the icon in the upper right-hand corner. This will generate a QR code.
3. Use your EG connect App to scan the code and link your account with your child’s account. Once you do so, it will unlock a new game for your child.
I encourage your child to log into Education Galaxy when he or she:
1. is absent
2. needs extra practice
3. would like extra credit assignments
4. needs an educational, fun activity to do
Below is a brief slideshow with information on how your student can log in.

Unit 1-Integers is Complete

Hello parents!
Last week we wrapped up our first unit of the year with a fun real life version of the game "Operations". Click on the link below to see how much fun we had pretending to be surgeons in math class:
Students took the Unit 1 Assessment last Thursday & began on their test corrections on Friday. Your child will bring home his/her test tomorrow to show you his/her work. Students were asked to identify where they made mistakes (if any) & show their work to get it right on the second try. Students are also required to explain their mistakes in complete sentences. The test corrections will be used to drop their lowest daily grade. Please sign the front page of the test to acknowledge that you have reviewed their test. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

In week two of a H.A.P.P.Y. (Having a Positive Purposeful Year) school year, we are learning about integers. Click on the video for a brief overview of integers. You can help your child familiarize themselves with integers by using real world scenarios where negative and positive numbers are used.
