Hello!

My name is Victoria Kelley and I am so excited to be your fifth grade math teacher this year!

I am so happy to be back in the Houston area! I am married to my awesome husband, Cary, and I have two crazy little guys, Hunter (3 1/2) and Logan (9 years), who will both be attending school here in Tomball. We moved here this summer from Amarillo, where I taught 8th grade math and 7/8 Technology. I have also taught fifth grade math in the Austin area and internationally in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

I received my Masters in Education in Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, Portland. I also have my bachelors degree in Social Science and Education from the University of Houston (GO COOGS!). I am Texas-certified in Elementary Education, EC-6 and 4-8, Special Education, English As A Second Language, Technology Applications, and Journalism.

I am HUGE sports fan - especially football and baseball - and I love to cheer on the Astros and my New England Patriots! In my spare time, I love crafting and DIY projects. My husband and I also enjoy SCUBA diving and have made several incredible dives while living in the D.R. I also enjoy traveling and spending time with my friends and family.

I LOVE math! I am very excited to be sharing my love of math with you! I welcome you to my class and I look forward to having a great year!

I am always available if you have any questions or concerns! My policy is to return phone calls and emails as soon as possible, and within 24 hours.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES!!!

Parents,

As we are quickly approaching the end of the first semester, please consider replenishing your child's basic school supplies (pencils, glue sticks, colored pencils, notebook paper, etc.). We have been hard at work these last few months and we have started to get low on supplies. Students should each have a pencil case with scissors, colored pencils, regular pencils/erasers, and a glue stick, that they keep with them in their backpacks. Our community supplies have been depleted due to students' not having the needed supplies with them. We really appreciate your help! Please see our Class Wish List if you'd like to donate anything to our classroom!

Thank you for your generosity!

MULTIPLICATION FACT FLUENCY

Parents,

It is important that your child is practicing his/her multiplication facts every night. As our math concepts advance this year, it becomes vital that they are fluent with their multiplication facts up to the 12's. It could be as simple as flashcards or they can use online programs like multiplication.com. Make it fun! Have a Multiplication Bee, play Around the World, create a game of your own!

Multi-Digit Multiplication

This video is a great resource to show how to multiply multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm. Students will need to show mastery of this strategy to enable them to multiply decimal numbers later in our unit.

Unit 2 Assessment This Week - 9/25

Just a reminder that this Wednesday, September 25, is our Unit 2 Assessment. The students will be tested on addition and subtraction of decimal numbers. The classes have done an amazing job with practices in class. We will have a full unit review on Tuesday in class, but as always, I am available before school Monday-Wednesday this week if your child needs any additional help. Please let me know and I will arrange for a pass to come into the building early.
