Great Expectations Focus
At TIS, we are committed to creating and maintaing a safe, successful learning environment for all students. One way that we do this is by implementing the Great Expectations program. We remind students daily of the 8 Expectations for Living:
- We will value one another as unique and special individuals.
- We will not laugh at or make fun of a person’s mistakes nor use sarcasm or putdowns.
- We will use good manners, saying “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” and allow others to go first.
- We will cheer each other to success.
- We will help one another whenever possible.
- We will recognize every effort and applaud it.
- We will encourage each other to do our best.
- We will practice virtuous living, using the Life Principles
Currently, we are seeing a decline in students following Expectations One, Two, and Seven. Please encourage your child to follow these expectations at home and school. We want our students to value each others' differences rather than making fun of them. In addition, please encourage your child to encourage their peers to do their best. An increase in restroom vandalism (i.e. inappropriate drawings or statements on stalls, flooded toilets/sinks, excessive trash) have led to additional cleaning for our short staffed custodial team. We know that you will help us encourage students to value and respect our school, just as they do in your home!
We are practicing the Life Principle of Friendship this week! Below are questions that you can ask your child at home about friendship.
- What qualities make a good friend?
- Do you think that people who are very different from each other can still be friends? Why or why not?
- What are some things that you can do to be a good friend to others?
Teachers will recognize students demonstrating the Life Principle of Friendship this week by placing a leaf on our Great Expectations Tree at the end of the week. Students will hear their names announced during the announcements as well!
