Hello Cougars!!!!!!!!! My name is Ms. Skinner and I am a PE teacher here at TIS.  I am from the Cypress area where I attended Cy-Fair High School lettering in basketball and track.  I attended Stephen F. Austin State University where I received my degree in Kinesiology.  I have 2 daughters, Bailey and Reagan.  I am a HUGE Houston Texans fan.  I'm excited to get to know you and can't wait to get you moving and active in PE.
 
 
What days does my child have PE?
5th grade and 6th grade students will come to PE 3 days a week.  They will come the same days every week, based on what letter they are (A,B,C,D, or E).

*Monday - A, B, C
*Tuesday - B, C, D
*Wednesday - C, D, E
*Thursday - D, E, A
*Friday - E, A, B

How is my child graded in PE?
Your child will receive 2 grades in PE.  Participation and Conduct.  The grading scale is E, S, N, or U.
 
Participation - Your child will NOT be graded on his/her athletic ability.  They will be graded on their willingness to participate in activities, following directions and being prepared for class (wearing the proper shoes/attire).
 
Conduct - The behavior demonstrated by your child will determine his/her grade.  Disrespect towards other students as well as teachers will not be tolerated.  When conduct becomes an issue, the student will have to sit out for a short amount of time and reflect on why they are sitting out.  We will ask the student why they had to sit out and how they can fix the issue, then be given the opportunity to participate again.  If the issue is fixed then the student continues to participate.  If the issue continues then the student must sign the code of conduct book indicating why they are sitting out.  
 
Students will earn a LETTER grade every unit which is about every 6 days.  Below is the grading guideline if a student has signed the Code of Conduct book.
E = 0-1
S = 2
N = 3
U = 4+

What if my child is injured or sick?
If your child is injured or sick, you may write a note stating the reason why he/she would have to sit out in PE. That note is valid for 3 days. After 3 days they must have a note from a physician. Depending on their injury they will be doing an alternate activity for their grade.​

What if my child forgets his/her shoes?
If your child forgets his/her shoes on the day they have PE, they will receive a U in the conduct book for that day and be given a written assignment for their participation for that day.  By law, students are required to have a minimum of 135 minutes of physical education each week.

6th Grade Sports Screening

May 16th -18th:   is Tomball's Sport Screening for incoming 7th graders for Tomball Jr. High or Creekside Park Jr. High.  This is for both male and female who are interested in athletics for 7th grade.  Coaches from the junior high and high school will work with your student after school to help them obtain a better understanding of junior high athletics.  All participants must have a TISD athletic physical on file before attending.  
 
TISD Athletic Physicals for the 2017-2018 school year:
   April 25th - THS@ 1:30-5:30 p.m. or
  April 27th - TMHS 1:30-5:30 p.m.
 
Physical are provided as a service from TISD-Houston Methodist.  The cost is $20 per student and must be completed before the May sports screening, participation in the THS summer Strength and Conditioning camp, or any sports at TJH.
 
You may choose to have your own doctor to perform your physical.  You are responsible for printing and providing your own physical form.  It can be found at the link below.  Any physical dated prior to April 15, 2017 will not be accepted for the 2017-18 participation year.

BUNNY RUN!!!!!

Pledge packets went home March 8, 2017 for TIS Annual Bunny Run.  The Bunny Run will take place on Friday March 31, 2017 during PE/Specials time.  Put on your running shoes and run as many laps and you can.  Support TIS!!!!

TURKEY TROT

Nov 18 is our Annual Turkey Trot.  Students must qualify with a certain time which will be determined after the mile run.  Students who qualify will be notified before hand.

MILE RUN

Starting Oct 18 we will start the mile run test.  This test will take about 5 days.  Weather permitting this is the following schedule:
 
Tues, Oct 18:  Letter "B"
Wed, Oct 19:  Letter "C"
Thur, Oct 20:  Letter "D"
Fri, Oct 21:  Letter "E"
Mon, Oct 24:  Letter "A"
 
Make up days will be Oct 25-28.
 
Please dress accordingly for the day you are to run the mile.
